  • Drive-By Truckers Alabama Ass Whuppin' LP
    Item #: D2LP17
Alabama Ass Whuppin’ is DBT’s third album. Originally released in 2000, the record has been out of print for years. Recorded from March 1999 through August of 2000 in clubs across the southeast including Tasty Word, The High Hat, The Star Bar, The Caledonia Lounge and the 40 Watt, Alabama Ass Whuppin’ documents a specific time for the band. The album has been re-mastered and includes updated artwork by Wes Freed.

“This was our third album and the connecting thread between our earlier work and the band that we went on to become later. It’s a documentation of a period in time that I wouldn’t go back to for all the money in the world, but I’m proud of the shows that we played and the songs that we wrote, “ says Patterson Hood.

“They’re Athens, GA, by way of Muscle Shoals guys, children of Skynyrd and Suicidal Tendencies’ “Institutionalized,” with sharp brains buried deep in the caterwaul.” - Spin 8 out of 10

“Alabama Ass-Whuppin’ is like a good truck-stop breakfast – it sticks with you a while.” Billboard, Dec. 2000

Recorded live and loud way down in Athens and Atlanta Georgia in 1999.

Jones, and having spent a lifetime listening to classic soul albums by Bobby Womack, Tony Joe White, and especially Eddie Hinton, it was inevitable that the Truckers eventually produce this album.

  • Patterson Hood - Heat Lightning Rumbles In The Distance LP
    Item #: D2LPPH03
CD copy of the album is included with all vinyl orders.

Patterson Hood’s third solo record, Heat Lightning Rumbles In The Distance, was released in September 2012 ATO Records. Hood co-produced the album with long time Drive-By Truckers’ collaborator David Barbe, who also plays bass on the album.

All of his DBT band mates make appearances on the record (Mike Cooley, Jay Gonzalez, Brad Morgan and John Neff) as does Scott Danbom and Will Johnson from Centro-matic and Kelly Hogan. Hood’s father, famed Muscle Shoals bassist, David Hood also plays on the record.

Hood originally started out writing a book that was a half-assed fictionalization of a very turbulent period of his life when he was 27. The book eventually stopped coming but the songs continued to pour out. Most of this album comes from a short period of time between February and June of 2011. Hood says, “The songs begin in the period that the book was set in, but don't end there, as they really just were the impetus for writing about the life I am living now and contrasting it with the troubled times of two decades ago. It is in some ways the most personal album I've ever made. There has always been a lot of me in all of the albums we've done, but usually semi-disguised as character sketches and stories, but the first person narrative in this one is pretty firmly rooted in autobiography, albeit in two dramatically differing time periods.”

  • Patterson Hood - After It's Gone 7" Vinyl
    Item #: D2LPPH02
Patterson Hood, singer, writer and guitarist from the band Drive-By Truckers assembled The Downtown 13, a musical collective made up of some Athens Georgia's finest musicians to celebrate our town's beauty and vibrant musical heritage and to protest a developer's proposed building of a 200,000 square foot mixed used development in downtown Athens, anchored by a 94,000 sq. foot Wal-Mart. Patterson wrote "After It's Gone" out of concern for the proposed development which essentially creates a second downtown, right next to our historic one (with no connectivity between them) and threatens the local businesses that have made our beautiful town so special and beloved. The Downtown 13 cull from over 30 years of Athens' legendary music scene. Featuring members of Drive-By Truckers, Widespread Panic, R.E.M., Futurebirds, Hope for Agoldensummer, Lera Lynn, Justified True Believe and The Quick Hooks. Track listing: A: After It's Gone B: (Unspoken Pretties)

  • Drive-By Truckers - American Band LP + 7 inch
    Item #: D2LP21
Drive-By Truckers have always been outspoken, telling a distinctly American story via craft, character, and concept, all backed by sonic ambition and social conscience. Founded in 1996 by singer/songwriter/guitarists Mike Cooley and Patterson Hood, the band have long held a progressive fire in their belly but with AMERICAN BAND, they have made the most explicitly political album in their extraordinary canon. A powerful and legitimately provocative work, hard edged and finely honed, the album is the sound of a truly American Band – a Southern American band – speaking on matters that matter. DBT made the choice to direct the Way We Live Now head on, employing realism rather than subtext or symbolism to purge its makers’ own anger, discontent, and frustration with societal disintegration and the urban/rural divide that has partitioned the country for close to a half-century.
AMERICAN BAND’s considerable force can in part be credited to the sheer musical strength of the current Drive-By Truckers line-up, with Hood and Cooley joined by bassist Matt Patton, keyboardist/multi-instrumentalist Jay Gonzalez, and drummer Brad Morgan – together, the longest-lasting iteration in the band’s two-decade history. AMERICAN BAND follows ENGLISH OCEANS and 2015’s IT’S GREAT TO BE ALIVE!, marking the first time DBT have made three consecutive LPs with the same hard-traveling crew.

Includes download card of full album.

First 2,500 vinyl pre-orders will receive dark red vinyl. Red vinyl will be available ONLY through the Drive-By Truckers webstore and US indie shops. Please note that due to manufacturing the intensity of red varies from each copy.

Patterson writes, "Finally Out. Killers and Stars was my homemade exorcism tape. I recorded it in my dining room, during the bleak days of early 2001. Bootlegged a few copies out and got busy with DBT. A black-humored document of a shitty time."
